Hello World!
The official newsletter of Erin Petrey for Congress: a bold, fresh, young, progressive voice for the Commonwealth
I’m Erin Petrey, and I’m Running for Congress
And this is my newsletter.
1. Why this, why now
Last November, I had a decision to make: I could sit around and complain that the folks we kept electing were ineffective, not doing their job, weren’t the caliber of candidate for the job, and that different kinds of people needed to run. Or, I could put my name in the race and actually BE that person.
So I did.
I launched my campaign for Congress on September 3rd. I’ve never made an easier decision to quit my high-paying job to dedicate everything I have - my time, my talent, my treasure - to creating a better future for the state and country I love. I did it for Kentucky. Because Kentucky needs a real worker in office, someone not just who can rub elbows but can deliver. This seat is primed to be flipped from red to blue. And I can do it. But not without your support.
This newsletter will address everything from voter questions, dig deeper into policies, and tell stories from the campaign trail. I can’t wait to bring you along on my journey.
2. Building a strong coalition of Kentuckians and progressives
Kentucky has been a political pawn for far too long. Mitch McConnell assumed office before I was born, and this state is worse off today than it was 40 years ago. For decades, Kentucky has been given the choice to choose between the lesser of two evils. I want to give Kentuckians someone to be excited about.
I believe in open and honest dialogue, and radical transparency. So if you have questions, reach out and ask them. I am not afraid of questions and I will do my best to answer them openly and honestly.
Kentucky needs progress, and to move forward. We rank at the bottom on so many critical indicators - from healthcare outcomes to economic opportunity to teacher pay - and I am committed to moving us forward.
3. Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride
I am fully committed to changing this place that I love so much - Kentucky and the United States - and am ready to accept the consequences, risks, and outcomes that come along with it. So I hope you will also buy the ticket by donating to my campaign and fueling the next generation of leaders here. On occasion, I will be sending out supporter-exclusive content, and know that every dollar you give helps me reach voters, hire local staff, and get the word out.
4. I am committed to fighting for everyone, and showing up
From fancy dinners to party meetings to protests on the streets, I show up, just like I will show up for each and every constituent - Republican or Democrat or Independent or Unaffiliated - if elected to Congress.
5. Help me spread the word
I am one voice but I aim to speak for many. But I cannot do that without a strong support network, and many contributing viewpoints. So help me by sharing this post and encouraging others to subscribe and donate and volunteer to support my campaign today. I promise you, I won’t disappoint you.
Thank you and looking forward - Erin
